Tanzania 2012

Friends and family,

It's been 6 years since I spent a summer in rural Uganda serving the Babwisi people.  Crazy how fast time flies!  Since then, I've been living in Atlanta developing my nursing skills, growing in community, and learning so much about myself.  For 3 years now I have been working on the hematology/oncology unit at Emory University Hospital.  Though it can be a challenging job at times, the Lord has given me a sincere love for my profession.  And last August I started graduate school at Emory to pursue a family nurse practitioner degree.  Many new experiences and adjustments I've had, but one thing that has not changed is my enthusiastic desire to serve the Lord in the developing world.

Well, guess what?! :)  I've been presented with an exciting opportunity to do medical missions in Tanzania this summer!  You may or may not know that for the past two summers I have taken a couple weeks off to attend a medical missions conference in Blacksburg, Virginia.  During this time, I would stay with a sweet host family while attending seminars each day with a group of mission-minded, medically focused individuals (and their families).  Now, some of us who have attended these conferences will have the chance to put what we've learned into practice as we serve together in East Africa!  This extremely rural area of TZ is rich in natural resources but poorly developed.  We hope to engage with this community and work collaboratively to improve health conditions by utilizing their natural resources as well as aid in the development of medical care.  Our time will consist of teaching and discussion in the mornings followed by community health practice in the afternoon/evenings.  Dr. Ty Hopkins and Dr. Dan Fountain will be leading the trip, and our group will consist of various healthcare professionals/students. The course is entitled "Foundations of Health and Development".  I'll be there for approximately seven weeks.  To read and watch more details regarding this trip, check out this website: Teamwork City of Hope - Foundations of Health and Development

I share all this with you for many reasons.  You mean alot to me and I'd love to keep you updated on what God is doing in my life.  I also want to give you the opportunity to partner with me in this experience by supporting me prayerfully and/or financially as you feel led.  As for prayer needs, I ask that you pray for God's will to be done as I take steps of faith to go to Tanzania, for His will to be done as He prepares our group to serve Him there this summer, and for His will to be done in the lives of those who live in the rural town of Ntagatcha, Tanzania.  As for financial needs, my goal is to raise roughly $3600 before my trip.  Lord willing, I will leave Atlanta on July 16th and return home August 29th.  If you'd like to join with me financially, you can make a check out to: Teamwork Ministries and send the amount to the address below (please state "for Laura Evans" on the comment line).  If you'd like to contribute online, please follow this link: Donate.  The project you'll choose is Medical Center, and on the next page you will be allowed to note that your contribution is specifically for my trip.  Feel free to email Lisa at lisa@teamworkcityofhope.com for questions or further clarification.  I am deeply grateful for your support and excited to join with you in God's plans for Tanzania this summer.

It's amazing how this trip has become a real possibility for me during the busy season of graduate school.  Not only do I have the support of my program coordinator but also of my manager, my parents, my mentor, and others.  As I continue to take steps of faith to go to Tanzania, I pray for His provision and clear direction.  I trust He will always go before us in whatever we do, and He will creatively utilize us for His kingdom purposes as we make ourselves available.

Thankful for each of you!

For His glory,
Laura
